Title: Stryphnodendron polyphyllum, Condensed tannins, HPLC, Quality control, Antibacterial activity, Wound healing, Antioxidant activity

Abstract: The stem barks of the Stryphnodendron polyphyllum Mart. is at a long time used by native population for treatment of several diseases, mainly as wound healing and antiseptic. Assessment the crude extract (FAA), ethyl-acetate fraction (FAE) and aqueous fraction (FA) obtained of stem barks of the S. polyphyllum Mart. as for chemical composition, antibacterial, wound healing and antioxidant activities, besides establishing references for quality control of the stem barks of the vegetable so much of the point of view botanic as well as physiochemical, to added of data of highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC) that allowed establishing a profile chromatographic for the FAE, F#4, F#5 and F#9, establishing comparative data with the existent for other species of the gender Stryphnodendron By column chromatography (CC) in Sephadex LH-20, twenty-four subfractions obtained from this ethyl-acetate fraction were isolated and identified 6 compounds: gallocatechin, epigallocatechin, 4’-Omethyl-robenitinidin-(4β→6)-4’-O-methyl-gallocatechin, epigallocatechin-(4β→8)- gallocatechin, fisetinidol-(4β→8)-gallocatechin, fisetinidol-(4α→8)-gallocatechin. The crude extract, ethyl-acetate fraction, and aqueous fraction, besides 24 sub fractions were tested against Bacillus subtillis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Escherichia coliCandida albicans, Candida krusei, Candida parapsilosis e Candida tropicalis, showing activity against Bacillus subtillisand Staphylococcus aureus. The crude extract and ethyl-acetate fraction were appraised as for the proliferation cellular in neo-formed epithelium in cutaneous wounds of rats, being effective in the healing action. The crude extract, ethyl acetate fraction, aqueous fraction and the first nine sub fractions, besides the isolated substances presented antioxidant activity. Thus, the extracts and fractions were shown effective in the biological tests and with a rich chemical content in flavan-3-ols and dimers of condensed tannins.
