Title: Contribution to the pharmacognostic study Pyrostegia venusta (Ker Gawl.) Miers

Abstract: Researches made with vegetal drugs to therapeutic purposes have called the attention of the pharmaceutical industry, especially in the two last decades. In this period some medicines became available to the public to be sold without efficacy and security researches. Specie as the Bignominaceae family have been the target of researches to activities as anti-inflammatory, contraceptives and antimicrobials and specially activities tests facing tumor cells lineages. The Pyrostegia venusta flowers have been used popularly to vitiligo, but without any efficacy and security studies. The flowers of this specie was available of quality control from five geographically different locations, besides the pharmacognostics researches and the validation of the APPV04/10 extract. The vegetal drug was collected from Cianorte (for three straight months). Obtaining Cianorte the 1st, Cianorte the 2nd and Cianorte the 3rd collect ; Naviraí, MS, Nova Andradina, MS and Monte Formoso, MG. The microscopic analysis showed uniserial epidermis covered with a very thick and streaky cuticle, the presence of chlomoplasts and trichomes uniserial and pluricells, homogeneous mesofile and the elliptic form pollen grains. The phytochemical screening indicated tannins and flavonoids weakly. The phyciso-chemical assays of the different localities demonstrated the follow results: drying at ambient temperature ca. 80%; loss on drying 6% to 15%; total ash 4% and e minimum acid-insoluble ash 0,0%; determination of extractives 40 to 55%; determination of residue in alcohol 50º GL 40 to 50%. The quantitative determination of the vegetable drug of tannins presented ca. 1% and verbascoside ca. 5%, at the crude extract 15% and in the MIS 6:1 ca. 80%. The preliminary chemical researches showed the presence of tannins (polyphenols) and weakly positive to flavonoids. From the MIS 6:1 fraction the verbascoside and β-OH-verbascoside were isolated, which were characterized through spectroscopic methods of RMN 1H, 13C, COSY, HMBC, HMQC, mass spectrometry and comparisons with literature dates. The APPV04/10 submitted to the validation research by spectrophotometry in the UV/VIS demonstrated to be precise, exact, lineal, specific and though according to the pharmacopoeia methodology.
