Pharmacognosy is the oldest branch of the pharmaceutical sciences, and targets the natural active principles, be they animals or plants. Pharmacognosy is an interdisciplinary area, making interface with botany, ethnobotany, medical anthropology, marine biology, microbiology, phytochemistry, phytotherapy, pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, agronomy, among others.
The national symposium has been held since 1997, but this year the proposal of the Brazilian Society of Pharmacognosy has also been to decentralize the event through regional editions.
In its first edition, the South-Brazilian Symposium on Pharmacognosy is being promoted by the Regional University of Blumenau and the Brazilian Society of Pharmacognosy.
The regionalization of this event aims to highlight the advances made by researchers working in the area in the South region, as well as to create a regional space for discussion and interaction between teachers, students and the community in general, enabling a wide regional participation.
