Graduate Program in Health Sciences

The Graduate Program in Health Sciences (PCS) is linked to the Health Sciences Center of the State University of Maringá. The PCS was approved by Capes in November 2002, and the first Master's degree class began in March 2003.

In August 2009, Capes approved the Ph.D. course, and the first class began in March 2010.

Currently, the PCS has twenty-five permanent faculty members, including twenty-two professors with exclusive employability and three volunteers.

The PCS consists of eight research lines, distributed in two areas of concentration: "Infectious and Parasitic Diseases" and "Human Health".

Through August 2016, the PCS graduated 294 Masters and 31 PhDs.

The PCS receives funding (grants and project financing) from Capes, CNPq and Araucaria Foundation.

The PCS was classified as level 5 in the latest assessment of Capes (2013-2016 period).

 

OBJECTIVES

I - to prepare health professionals with skills and competencies for teaching and doing research;

II - to form creative and critical professionals able to develop, analyze and interpret scientific data which interfere with the health-disease process;

III - to generate knowledge that may contribute to the improvement of the quality of human life.

 

MASTER COURSE

Duration:     Minimum: 12 months

                   Maximum: 24 months

Credits: 20 credits (18 compulsory and 2 optatives)

 

Ph.D. COURSE

Duration:     Minimum: 24 months

                   Maximum: 48 months

Credits: 30 credits

 

Each theoretical credit is equal to 15 hours and each practical credit is equivalent to 30 hours

 

SELECTION PROCESS

The students’ selection of for the Master Degree takes place annually and comprises: a) Written test, involving understanding and interpretation of scientific literature text on Health area, which is eliminatory; b) Interview, in which it will be analyzed the proposed work, the candidate's availability for carrying out the program’s activities, oral expression of ideas and the candidate's synthesis capacity; c) Curriculum analysis.

 

The selection of students for the Ph.D. takes place annually and by continuous flow, depending on the availability of vacancies of supervisors, and comprises: a) Interview, in which it will be analyzed the proposed work, the candidate's availability for carrying out the program’s activities, oral expression of ideas and the candidate's synthesis capacity; b) Presentation and defense of the research project to be developed; c) Curriculum analysis.
