In an appointment with Prof. Neumar Adélio Godoy (the UEM´s Rector at 1981), the MSc. Nilson Evelázio de Souza (the Head of Chemistry Dept at UEM –DQI/UEM, at that time), requested to open 05 (five) positions for Masters in Science teaching at the DQI to attend pos- doctorate courses in Chemistry. Such demand was approved by the Main University Council (COU). This was a strategy for creating, in a short future, a Master program in at DQI/UEM. Following this strategy, in 1982, Adley Forti Rubira, Carlos Augusto Pereira, Creusa Maieuru Macedo Costa, José Luiz Macedo Costa, Maria Helena Sarragiotto and Nilson Evelazio de Souza initiated their Doctorate courses at Chemistry Institute of UNICAMP.

In 1986, after obtaining their titles of Doctor in Chemistry, Profs. Creusa M. M. Costa and Nilson E. Souza, asked the Head of DQI/UEM, Prof. MSc. Aldolino Zermiani, for constituting a three-members commission (Prof. Dr. Nilson Evelázio de Souza, President; Prof. Dr. Ervim Lenzi; Prof. Dra. Creusa Maieru Macedo Costa) with the aim of elaborating a proposal for implantation Master Program at the DQI/UEM. Prof. N. E. Souza was also elected member of Learning, Research and Extension Council (CEP) of UEM and actuated as President of Graduation Camera (CPG/CEP) as auxiliary council of CEP. The project of Master Program at the DQI/UEM was approved during the first semester of 1987 by the Main University Council (COU) being implanted in July 1987. Prof. N. E. Souza was designated as Coordinator of the Master Program at DQI up to July 1988.

The first Master Dissertation defense occurred in November 1990 by Sandra Terezinha Marques Gomes Mestrado being the work entitled "Determinação Simultânea dos Ácidos Acético e Láctico por Titulação Potenciométrica e sua Aplicação a Análise de Vinhos", advised by Prof. Nilson Evelázio de Souza.

The Doctorate was implanted in 2001 when the Profs. Ernani Abicht Basso and Maria Helena Sarragiotto were, respectively, the Coordinator and Vice- Coordinator of the program.

The Administration of the Chemistry Graduation Program is formed by a coordinator and a Vice-coordinator and a Collegiate formed by four faculty members and one student
