UEM rises in ranking of the best universities in Brazil and Latin America
The State University of Maringá (UEM) has increased its position in Brazil and Latin America, ranking 26th among the country's higher education institutions and 47th in Latin America, according to the most recent survey of the web of universities ranking, also known by Webometrcis, of Spain.
This is the largest academic ranking in this area, conducted by the Cybermetrics Laboratory (CSIC) to provide reliable, multidimensional, up-to-date and useful information on the performance of universities around the world.
In the same survey, UEM reached 1,181st place among the best institutions of higher education in the world. This means that the State University of Maringá improved 18 positions compared to the previous ranking of 2017, when it occupied the 1,199th place in the world.
Webometrics is a ranking system for universities around the world based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the institution's web content (number of pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these on-line publications. according to the number of site citations they received.
It also takes into account transparency, based on the number of citations from renowned authors; and excellence, considering the number of jobs among the 10% most cited in 26 disciplines.
The classification is published by the Cybermetrics Laboratory, a research group of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), located in Madrid, Spain. Since 2004, the Webometrics Ranking is published twice a year, covering more than 24,000 Higher Education Institutions around the world.
The University of São Paulo (USP) is the first in Brazil and Latin America and the 72nd in the world. Among the public higher education institutions of the state network in Paraná, the State University of Londrina, the highest ranked, reached the 22nd in Brazil, 42nd in Latin America and 1,130th in the world.
According to UEM Vice Dean Julio Damasceno, the result shows that the State University of Maringá is consolidated as an institution of higher education, mainly of research, and that, for this, it counts on a cadre of professors and university agents of high competence, as well as the infrastructure of laboratories and state-of-the-art equipment.
Still in his evaluation, the servers have a favorable working environment in what I did with regard to the number of hours dedicated to the activities at the University. "EMU also achieves this performance in Webometrics due to the quality of its projects, which results in significant funding from the funding agencies," concludes Damasceno.
