Title: Pharmacognostic study of shells Stryphnodendron obovatum Benth., Antioxidant activity, antimicrobial and healing action of its extracts
Abstract: “Barbatimão de folha miúda” Stryphnodendron obovatum Benth. was used popularly as: antimicrobial, in wound healing, leukorrhea, blenorrhoea, diarrhoea, and anti-inflamatory. The present work was to accomplish study pharmacognostic and to check some activities of EB, fractions and subfractions: antioxidant, antimicrobial and wound healing properties. It was possible to trace a profile of the representatives chemists of the vegetable drug, and also to observ that the best time for obtaining tannins was the Spring. From CC Sephadexâ LH-20 it 22 subfractions were obtained using FAcOEt, and 5 compounds were isolated and identified: epigallocatechin, gallocatechin, epigallocatechin-(4b®8)-gallocatechin, epigallocatechin-(4b®8)-epigallocatechin and robinetinidol-(4b®8)-epigallocatechin. The study of the antioxidant activity showed that the sufractions 6 to 12 demonstrated antioxidant activity as compared to the controls quercetin, rutin, galic acid, and astilbin. All the fractions, subfractions and extracts were tested against the microorganisms Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, Candida parapsilosis, Candida krusei, Candida tropicalis. The subfractions F#13 to F#22 were active against Gram-positive microorganisms, C. albicans and C. parapsilosis. FEB and FAcOEt increased the metafase number/area indicanting improvement in the proliferation cellular in the wounds using pomade at 2.5%.
Keywords: Stryphnodendron obovatum, Leguminosae, quality control, tannin, antioxidant activity, antimicrobial activity, wound healing properties.
